Funds will provide safety training to students in Decatur and Macon County.
DECATUR, IL - Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) today donated $50,000 to the Mid-Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross to help provide safety training to students in Decatur and throughout Macon County.
"ADM is proud to make this donation to the Mid-Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross to help keep the Decatur community safe," said Mirinda Rothrock, ADM's manager of community engagement.
The $50,000 is part of a total donation of $300,000 to the American Red Cross (ARC) that will help keep ADM communities safe and help people in need all around the world. ADM's donation includes $125,000 to local ARC chapters in ADM communities, $100,000 to the ARC International Response Fund and $75,000 to the ARC Disaster Relief Fund.
During a ceremony held today at the Mid-Illinois Chapter's headquarters in Decatur, ADM presented Red Cross Executive Director Dennis Eller with a $50,000 check. The funds were given through the company's corporate giving program, ADM Cares, in celebration of ADM's Global Safety Week, which was held June 14 to 18. ADM holds Global Safety Week each year to sustain the Company's downward trend in injuries and reinforce the belief that "Zero is Possible" when it comes to injuries in the workplace.
ADM's donation will help the Red Cross provide safety classes, including training in first-aid, CPR and automated external defibrillator to students in Decatur and Macon county schools. ADM began funding the training in September, 2008. Since then, the Red Cross has trained more than 6,200 local students, teachers and administrators.
"Because of the generous support of ADM, the Red Cross is able to prepare students to respond effectively and with confidence when an emergency arises," said Eller.
"ADM strives to make positive difference in Decatur and in all communities where we live and work," said Rothrock. "We support the American Red Cross because they fulfill immediate, vital needs and help keep people safe in communities around the world."
